Особый интерес для агентства представляют технические документы, которыми обмениваются члены GSM Association. Информация в них необходима операторам для организации роуминга, но спецслужбы получают из них сведения о методах шифрования и ряд других данных.
Блог The Intercept публикует очередную подборку документов, переданных бывшим сотрудником Агентства национальной безопасности США Эдвардом Сноуденом. Они показывают, что с целью обнаружения уязвимых мест сетей мобильной связи агентство ведет программу перехвата внутренней переписки сотрудников компаний-операторов и международных ассоциаций. Программа носит название AURORAGOLD.
АНБ следит за перепиской членов ассоциации GSM Association. В список входит 1201 адрес электронной почты. По состоянию на май 2012 года агентство получило техническую информацию примерно о 70% мобильных сетей из 985 известных в мире. Впрочем, в документах не указаны названия конкретных компаний. Упоминается только об операторах в Ливии, Китае и Иране.
Особый интерес для агентства представляют технические документы под кодом IR.21, которыми обмениваются компании-члены GSM Association. Информация в них необходима операторам для организации роуминга, но АНБ получает из них сведения о методах шифрования и ряд других данных, нужных для организации перехвата разговоров. Наиболее распространенный алгоритм шифрования сотовой связи A5/1, как сообщалось, уже взломан специалистами АНБ, а информация, полученная в рамках AURORAGOLD, позволяет им приступить к поиску методов взлома новых алгоритмов типа A5.
